Do you love to sing? Or have you been told that you have a pretty good singing voice? There are ways to improve your singing voice and, in fact, we will look at seven ways to improve singing right here!
1. We’ve all heard the old saying, “sing from your diaphragm.” This rings true! Test your voice by first singing right at the throat and then from your diaphragm—you’ll see the difference.
2. Try placing your hand on your belly when you sing. This can help you monitor your breathing and almost every voice coach will tell you to breathe, breathe, and breathe. To tell if you are doing this correctly, your hand should be able to feel your belly expand when singing.
3. Just like any muscle in your body, your vocal cords need to be warmed up! Practicing warming them up by singing the scale, you know, Do, Re, Mi, Fa, and all the rest! Research other voice warm-ups and do them each time before you begin singing tunes or songs.
4. If you want to improve your singing voice, don’t sing while sitting down. Make sure you have good posture when singing. Slumping into a chair will not let you sing with a good hearty voice, but standing straight with your shoulders back will improve your tunes.
5. Surprisingly, what you drink can make a difference in your singing voice. Avoid drinking milk before you practice or begin singing—milk can clog your vocal cords. Also, drink plenty of water. Water is good to hydrate all parts of our bodies, including our vocal cords.
6. Try not to strain your voice or avoid singing if you are sick with a sore throat. You know when you’re sick, so give that singing voice a good rest when it needs one.
7. Finally, it’s important to make sure your soft palate is raised, giving your vocal cords more room to belt out a good tune. Also, the tip of your tongue should be behind your teeth to allow that favorite song to come through.
There are many ways to improve your singing voice. Another is to enlist the help of a good voice coach or take a singing class. If you are looking for ways to improve your singing voice, try doing some research on the Internet, read some singing books, buy some voice coaching CDs or DVDs, and try to put your best into it.
Practicing is important as well if you want to improve your singing voice. If you only practice once in a while, you won’t reap the benefits of another who practices daily. Just as with anything in life, it may take a while to improve your singing skills, but with your determination and effort, you’ll soon notice that your voice has improved and you may feel confident enough to sing at church or a local amateur night!
